Food, Football, & Fall

Although the calendar says we have a few more days of summer, fall has certainly struck us this weekend. The crisp air, clear skies, and cool breezes. As soon as you open the front door you can smell it…football. I’m a believer that you can tell what sport season you’re in just by opening the front door and taking it all in. Fresh cut grass in spring….baseball is here. I love fall for this reason…Football Sundays. Before becoming a mother I would spend my entire day with family, food, and football. I would spend Saturday afternoon contemplating what I wanted to make and bring over. Chili, calzones, chicken soup. Now that I have children, things have changed a bit. Now I sit home with my kids and watch the games, and be sure to sensor the shouting and cheering.  But just because times have changed doesn’t mean it all goes out the window. I have made my self my own batch of delectible guacamole. I LOVE guacamole. Love to make it, love to eat it! My husband was never a fan of avocados, but now he’s hooked and I find myself making it often. It’s super easy, try it.

INGREDIENTS:

2 avocados

1/4 red onion

small roman tomato

1/2 jalapeno pepper

1 garlic clove

tsp lime juice

salt & pepper

Halve the avocados and take out the pit. Scoop out the flesh and dice it. Put the avocado in the bowl and add some salt and pepper and squeeze in some lime. Take a fork and smash up the avocados. Crush and mince up the garlic and add to the bowl. Then dice up the onion, tomato, and jalapeno. Mix it all together and serve. I even love it on turkey sandwiches! Half time is over, time to get back to the game.

  1. That look delish! I feel the same way and things are definitely different post kid on football Sunday but it is a season to enjoy having family over a great smells coming from the kitchen. I love anything TexMex and whipped up a pot of Tortilla Soup that would have gone great with your guac. Give it a try yourself http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/tortilla_soup/

I think it will be a new staple in our house! Enjoy and happy football cooking 😉

  2. Love this post too! I am a newcomer on the guacamole scene and eat it every chance I get. I am going to make a stab it now! Thank you!
