Library Outing

I’m not one to take my boys to “story time” at the library. Mainly this is because I’m a working mom and I work 4o hours a week. “Story time” is usually smack in the middle of the day. My kids have never been to a library play of any sort. Now yes, I have taken them to the library to pick out books, but that’s on occasion. I sometimes feel like I have failed them in some sort of way. I really need to make more of an effort on the library front. Every time we go we have a blast and I love finding new books for them. I don’t know why we barely ever go, although I am sure I can come up with a laundry list of excuses.

Last week I received an email from my mother stating Dinoman was coming to the Seekonk Library. Now for those of you who know my family or read my blog you know that my oldest has been obsessed with anything and everything dinosaur since he was two. Dinoman was showing a 6:30 this evening, which miraculously fit into my schedule, and they were still home just in time for bed.

Here’s a little video of what the show entails.

All I can say is that my boys LOVED it. I swear Logan was the most enthusiastic kid there. He even got to volunteer! I’m so bummed I didn’t take any pictures because the look on his face when he held a real triceratops horn fossil was priceless. We had so much fun. It was nice to do something different for a change. So if Dinoman man comes to your local library or museum I highly recommend it for your dino-enthusiast. I really need to start doing these types of things more often before they’re too old and too cool to do any of them.

  1. That’s great that you were able to make memories like this with your kids. I remember taking my kids to a ‘Walking With Dinosaurs’ kind of exhibit at our local Children’s Museum. It was an animatronic sort of thing where the dinosaurs moved and roared. It was great. I know there are more advanced technologies out there but at the time, it was pretty awesome. If you ever get to Florida, the Jurassic Park theme park at Universal studios is great. They have a stegosaurus that is almost close enough to touch and looks so real! It was amazing! Our kids loved it! Also, I remember going with my son’s class to our local history museum, which has a school program where the kids can ‘uncover’ dinosaur bones and make casts of them. Very cool stuff!

  2. fun!
Libraries need to do a better job of accommodating working parents. I have worked all combinations of hours and when I worked FT where we live now, we could never attend any library programs. Now they have one evening program, but all the elementary geared programs are after-school– none on Saturdays.

  3. The library really is an untapped outing isn’t it!? Free and always fun. I doubt that Dinoman will come to our tiny library but that would certainly be worth the trip!

  4. Looks like a seriously good time was had by all and now you can lay your mother’s guilt to rest because you totally delivered when it really counted. We LOVE the library and go as often as possible. Especially in the winter months.

  5. My girls love the library but I don’t get thrilled about story time. I’ve had to seek out the good ones where it’s not too chaotic. We just went to the one in Barrington and it was amazing! A half hour long, super interactive and my girls were mesmerized! Putting Dinoman on my list of things to check out !

      1. I’m so jealous. The past two times it’s been in Chicagoland we’ve either been on or leaving for vacation.

Tammy would be so annoyed because I would SO be a little kid watching it. haha…

  6. Uhm….ok….I’m jealous. I’m a 30 year old Dino lover haha so I can totally relate to your son’s enthusiasm! (I wanted to change the spelling of my name to “Cera” like TriCERAtops. Seriously. Don’t judge. )

I’m glad you got to take the kids, and everyone had a good time.

Now, head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Visit DinoLand USA!

  7. WOW – that is so cool! There is nothing like that around here, most especially at the library. I was never successful with my boys at story time because, um, they were boys & that was the last thing they wanted to do was sit with other kids & listen to someone read a book. Unfortunately our library has a few computers for the kids & it’s right next to the location of story time – way too distracting for my kiddos! Kudos to you for going when you can!!
