Pumpkin Guts Are Gross

When we went to the farm this year the boys decided they wanted a “family” pumpkin. A huge one that we could carve. Honestly, there was a bit of a pumpkin tantrum going on. I was at the point where I needed to take a deep breath, choose if it was truly worth the battle that was about to begin, and then just say “hell with it” and get the ginormous pumpkin.

Day after day they asked about carving the pumpkin. “When are we going to finally do it!?” So on Halloween Eve my husband dragged the monstrosity into the house and got ready to get messy. They planned the design together but dad, the artist of our clan, was to do the carving. The boys job…removing the guts of the pumpkin.

We’ve never carved a pumpkin before. We usually just paint them. Well just by the pictures below you can tell what the boys thought of pumpkin carving. “Gross!” “Disgusting!” “Nasty!”

They insisted on wearing yard gloves.

Then I told them I was going to take the guts and bake them in the oven. Double GROSS!

They immediately requested showers and Daddy had to finish the job. And I  must say he did an AWESOME job!

  1. That’s too funny about your boys not liking the guts! Braxtyn always says, Ewww but he still loves ripping them out and sorting the seeds.

  2. The pumpkin looks GREAT!!! I love the pictures with the boys…Gross…so funny!! We’ve carved pumpkins in the past, but it was my husband & I. This year we skipped it, just ran out of time…plus Ava is 3…thinking she have more fun next year…or at least that is what I’m telling myself instead of feeling bad we didn’t do one this year! 😉

  3. Wow, awesome pumpkin! Love the pictures…your boys’ faces are priceless. We never got around to carving this year. Two of our pumpkins rotted and the other two…well, they are still just sitting around. lol

  4. What an awesome Jack-o-lantern! Pumpkin guts are rather gross. Someone recently suggested to me that an ice cream scoop is really good for cleaning out the seeds and messy stuff, especially the kind of scoop that ‘ejects’ the ice cream. That might be worth a try if you ever decide to do this again – although from the look on your kids’ faces, that will be highly unlikely! lol
