Ready For The Races

Now that my treadmill is no longer being held hostage by the Christmas tree I have resumed my mental health running. I must be honest, after my first couple of runs my legs were cursing me, but now I’m back into a groove.

Last September I ran my first 5K. It was something I had been wanting to do for years and never did. I then ran another one in October. Now I sort of have a 5K bug. I want to plan a few for this year. I have no desire to bump it up to a 10K or a half marathon. I’m comfortable with my 5Ks. However, I am toying with the idea of doing one of those obstacle course type races. Tough Mudder, Tough Scrambler, Bold R Dash. I’m just not totally sure yet. I guess I’m just looking for an extra push. I’ve looked at the websites, I’ve heard horror stories, but I also hear how fun they are.

I’m definitely doing two 5Ks in the fall. There are obstacle course races in spring and fall in my neck of the woods. I just can’t decide if I should go for it, and if so, when? Please help me decide.

Have you participated in a muddy obstacle course race? Please share what you thought about it.

  1. As much as I want to vote for sit on the couch with wine and cheese, because it would make me feel better knowing someone is “joining” me… haha, I say give one of the obstacle courses a shot.

From what I hear those things are more fun if you have a “team” to run with. Oh and don’t forget that you are sposed to leave your shoes at the end of the race, as a “sacrifice” to the course. haha…

    Good luck!

  2. I did the Shape Diva Dash last year in Marshfield, MA (a 5K obstacle course race). It was a lot of fun and a lot less intense than the other obstacle course races because it’s for women only. We should totally get a team of Rhody Bloggers – there were tons of ladies competing in teams with fun T-shirts, etc. Plus we got lots of free swag (and beer) after 😉 Email me if you want more info! I think the race is in early Sept. xo

  3. Ok, I’m the only one who voted for sit on the couch and eat goldfish. Sigh. I only did that because I am jealous of all of your who are working hard at these different 5ks! Maybe instead of being jealous I should use you guys as my inspiration… 🙂

  4. I’m a yoga and tennis girl! I could do either for the length of time someone can run a marathon – but I’m not a big runner! I’ll do a short 3 miles on a treadmill for a quick boost – and have done some fun little runs – (Jog, Dog and Grog) – but good for you for having these races as goals!!

  5. A whole bunch of us did the Rugged Maniac in 2011. It was HELL to finish but a lot of fun too. That probably doesn’t sound like it makes sense, but once you do one, you will get it! I couldn’t have, wouldn’t have, finished it without my friend who stayed back with me to keep me going but I am so, so glad that I did. Go for it!

  6. I pretty much love that sit on the couch with wine and Goldfish is in second. Now I wish I had voted for that, just so it would be in first place! 😉

I did however, vote for 3 5ks, because I think those tough mudder things are ca-RAZY!!

  7. I vote for a mud run at some point in there!! I’m dying to do one myself – hope to fit one in this fall!!

  8. I miss my half marathons SO bad, I did a Warrior Dash, and it was a great “baby race”. I want to be a Spartan… but the blood and vomit involved scares the heck out of me!
I wish you SO much luck!!!
