Hello there. I figured I would update you all on how my first ever garden is going. Well, it’s growing as you can see!!
I’ve got tomatoes growing really well. Both vine tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. I can’t wait to eat these babies with some fresh mozzarella and basil. Totally salivating right now.
My first little surprise was a bell pepper. It’s getting bigger…I’m just waiting for it to turn orange. If it doesn’t I’m going to be really irked. I’m not a green pepper fan. I’m not seeing even a hint of orange here. Hmm.
Then there is the monstrosity of my one and only zucchini plant. The thing is HUGE!! (note to self, bigger garden next year just for zucchini). This plant is taking up the entire garden. I can’t even touch it because of it’s micro-sized little thorns. Ouch.
But it’s making me some zucchini. I ended up having to pollinate them myself. I was talking with a friend about how I kept getting flowers but no fruit. He said I needed to pollinate them, one flower to the next. Seriously felt like I defiled the poor things…but it worked. Look at that little baby.
I’m saddened to see that all my lettuce is getting eaten by bugs. At least something is enjoying it I guess. Won’t be planting any next year.
So my tiny garden is coming along. I can’t wait to really enjoy it. My eggplant hasn’t done much of anything but get taller. Hopefully by the end of the month I’ll be enjoying my own grown veggies.
How’s your garden doing this season?
Yum!! Nothing tastes as wonderful as fresh tomatoes! We ended up doing a farm share this summer and sometimes I can pretend it’s like we have our own garden … which is probably better, since I have a black thumb 😉
Your garden is really coming along! I’m not much of a gardener, so I admire your dedication. It takes a lot of time and effort to get it coming along as well as you have already.
It looks great Sheri. You used to walk through Sam’s garden and pop the cherry tomatoes right in your mouth. Sam and Gram used to dip zucchini flowers in batter and fry them. Love you
Fried zucchini flowers!!?? Did you ever try them?
Sheri, Sheri, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? lol Your garden looks wonderfully green! Hope you end up have some very lovely salads with all those veggies. 🙂
Ha!! I was reciting that as I was taking my pictures yesterday!
Wow, way to go, Sheri! It’s funny, I know someone else who is growing HUGE zucchini this year, too!
Way to go Sherri!! That is a great garden!
I’m always so excited to plant the garden, then I loose steam this time of the summer and it becomes a backyard jungle of decaying veggies!
