just me

The End of Summer

I haven’t been ready for the end of summer. I haven’t been ready for the kids to go back to school. I’m not ready for homework battles and making lunches for the next 180 days of school. I need more summer. I usually look forward to fall, but all I see is winter looming. This past winter was so LONG, that I feel like if I actually accept fall coming that winter will come that much sooner. I’m just not ready.

We had our final beach day for the summer last week. I almost wanted to go back today just so I didn’t have to let go of summer.

We spent Labor Day weekend poolside with family. Again, I’m not ready to say goodbye to those lazy, carefree days watching the boys play with their cousins and getting tossed in the deep end by their uncles. Their laughter exploding when they come to the surface.

Although I’m so not ready, I’m trying to see the positive side.

  • It’s Virgo time! For me it’s like a pregnant woman’s “nesting” time. I like to clean out drawers, move around furniture, and plan indoor projects.
  • Football season is basically here.
  • It will be time to pick apples and pumpkins.
  • Crisp cool mornings.
  • Comfort foods. I can spend hours and hours in my kitchen.

But still….that can all wait another month. Seriously.

  1. I’m not looking forward to homework either, it’s torture for my oldest. I wish it would get cool once the kids walked through the school doors, it would make it easier to let go of summer.

  2. There are just too few summers to enjoy with your kids, aren’t there? Do you have a county fair? My dad always took us to the county fair one afternoon when we had a half-day of school, but even late afternoon and evening would be fun!
