Don’t Fumble the Waistline This Football Season: 5 Good Tailgating Choices

Football season is here at last! However, along with football season comes tons of fried and fatty foods that will make you fumble at the waistline. How about adding more healthy options to your tailgating spread this season? Here are five healthier options that still provide the same tingle to the pallet as your traditional football foods, but aren’t quite so full of guilt.

Buffalo Cauliflower

Craving those Buffalo wings? Try these buffalo cauliflower bites instead. These were a hit with my crew. They still have that buffalo wing flavor without that fatty chicken skin. Paired with some celery and light blue cheese, you won’t even miss the wings.

Pre-heat to 450°

Batter: 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup milk, 1 tsp garlic powder. Batter and bake cauliflower for 10 minutes, then flip and bake for another 10 minutes. Toss with some buffalo wing sauce (I prefer Sweet Baby Rays), and bake for another 5 minutes.

Nuts

Go nuts with some nuts. They’re loaded with healthy fats and are a great source of protein. You can actually get pretty creative and add some flavor. Go to Nuts.com and see what they have to offer. Habanero or Chiptole BBQ Pistachios!? Sure to be crowd pleasers!

Turkey Chili

Turkey Chili is always a staple in our house during football season. I make it with turkey sausage, which has so much more flavor than the plain ground turkey. Here’s my RECIPE.

Veggie Chips

Zucchini, sweet potato, kale…take your pick! Make your own (RECIPE) or even buy them. Pair them with this Sriracha Greek yogurt dipping sauce for some added kick! It’s super simple. Combine 1 container of plain Greek yogurt, 1 tbsp sriracha, 1 chopped garlic clove, and a squeeze of half a lime.

Grilled Pizza

Grilled pizza! Get a store-bought whole wheat thin pizza shell and top it with some pesto, chicken, and veggies. Packed with flavor and a great way to feed a crowd.

Hope you’ll be making some healthy snacking choices this football season. Will you be adding more healthy options to your spread this season? Do you have any great recipes to share? Put them in the comments. We’re always looking for something new to try.
