Fitness Friday – Trying Barre

I’ve been wanting to try Barre for a while now. I’ve been in need of something new and a little out of my comfort zone. The great thing about Barre is that it combines strength training and cardio. Barre is also great for posture. Seeing I work at a desk all day long I was in desperate need of finding a workout that would really focus on posture, balance, and core muscles.

What is Barre you ask?

“Most barre-based classes use a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements.” – Fitness Magazine

Here are a few workouts I found and tried. Honestly, I got a little bored after a half an hour, but it felt good. Those tiny small range-of motion moves really make your muscles shake, similar to what happens during planking. You should give it a try.

I love that you can do these right at home in your living room. Always a time saver for me.

Have you tried Barre before? What are your thoughts?
