Unfathomable things happen. I’ve been sitting on this post of nearly two weeks not knowing what to write but wanting to share this incredible organization. I can’t bring myself to put the words on the screen, but being silent is not what Heather wants. Heather and I didn’t just grow up together, she’s someone I consider my sister. She was the maid of honor in my wedding. She is a beautiful, loving, devoted, caring, inspiring, and STRONG woman.
Here’s her story:
Seven years ago Kennedy Milan Wilson arrived quietly into the world. Heather, being 35 weeks pregnant, noticed no movement and immediately went to the hospital. A placental abruption they called it. 25 hours of labor and my beautiful friend had to plan a funeral after she had just prepared her home to welcome her first child.
When Heather’s mother tried finding a gown for her tiny granddaughter she had a hard time finding anything small enough. Here’s the inspiration for Kennedy’s Angel Gowns.
Kennedy’s Angel Gowns’ mission is to help, heal, and give back to bereaved families. To help raise awareness to the silence that often surrounds infertility, miscarriage, early neo-natal loss, still born, and infant loss. They provide hand-crafted burial gowns for baby girls and vests & ties for baby boys for families who have suffered the loss of a child before, during, or shortly after birth at no cost. These beautiful garments are hand-crafted and sewn from some of the finest materials, as they are made from donated wedding gowns.
Heather’s words:
“I didn’t think I’d ever survive this tragedy and feeling of emptiness, but through Kennedy’s Angel Gowns I’ve discovered life again and it has truly helped my healing process. Each gown is sewn with love and I pray over each gown and for the bereaved families as well. By dedicating myself to sewing these angel gowns and helping others in their time of grief I’m keeping Kennedy’s memory alive. “
I am beyond proud of Heather and her husband Demitri for what they are doing to help other families and pray that it brings them all some healing.
