The Bookshelf: The Identicals by Elin Hilderbrand

Have you read the newest Elin Hilderbrand book yet? The Identicals. I just finished it and LOVED it. Out of all of her books that I’ve read, I think this one might be my favorite. In traditional Hilderbrand fashion the story takes place on Nantucket, but also the Vineyard. Two islands, and a set of estranged identical twins made for an interesting parallel. Harper and Tabitha may look exactly the same, but their personalities and lifestyles are completely different, especially after their parents’ divorce and they were forced to part ways. Harper got to live with their father on Martha’s Vineyard, and Tabitha was sent to live with their mother on Nantucket, and she’s a little bitter about it.

The twins haven’t spoken to each other since Tabitha kicked Harper out of her house and told her she never wanted to see her again fifteen years ago. When their father’s death brings them back into each other’s company, they need to decide if they can put the past behind them and reconcile their differences. Tabitha needs to get past the tragedy they experienced 15 years ago and heal and forgive.

The girls swap islands and essentially lives for the summer after their father’s death. It’s being in each other’s shoes where they then begin to truly understand one another once again.

It was a great beach or poolside read. I couldn’t put it down. Finding out what the tragedy was 15 years prior was like a carrot dangled in front of you. By the end you finally understand why the way they are. I highly recommend you put this one on your list.
