Making Ice Cream

Finn wanted an ice cream maker for Christmas this year. Obviously, we’ve been watching a lot of cooking competition shows and we would be ice cream making masters! He could not wait to make ice cream for the family. I read through the instructions. I didn’t realize how much salt and ice was needed to make ice cream. It was a lot of salt and ice.

Finn decided on making a simple vanilla ice cream and later adding in some mini-chocolate chips. I just hoped for the best. I’ve never made ice cream before and I didn’t want him to be disappointed.

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Cream
  •  2 ¼ Cups Half and Half
  •  1 ¼ Cup Sugar
  •  3/4 Tbsp. Vanilla

It was rather simple once you got all the parts where they were supposed to go. You just combine the ingredients and put them in the canister. You surround the canister with salt and ice and then turn the machine on. The annoying part was having to keep adding more salt and ice, but other than that it was easy. Finn was really excited as he saw the mixture starting turn into ice cream.

And I must say, it was DELICIOUS!!

All in all the amount of money spent on ingredients and salt, I could have gotten a couple pints of Häagen-dazs, but the joy on his face when serving his brother his very own ice cream was priceless. Now what flavor shall we make next?
