Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination

Although this was written by Helen Fielding, it was certainly NOT Bridget Jones’ Diary. So you need to drop that expectation before even picking up this book. I had read a few samples of books while trying to find something new to read and it wasn’t going to well so I decided to try this one. Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination. The title caught me. I figured it would be funny, which it was, but it was more of a James Bond-style rom-com/action version of chic-lit.

Olivia Joules is a journalist with an overactive imagination. She’s often pitching stories to her editor that are just over the top and get her into trouble when she is completely wrong. She is sent on another “style” assignment in Miami for a new face cream launch where she meets an intriguing Pierre Feramo and begins to think he is really not a French movie producer but actually part of al-qaeda and planning terrorist attacks. Olivia and her overactive imagination. Could she be right? If so, what is he planning?

Where Olivia is often silly, she is also very strong and clever and makes an excellent heroine. Piece by piece she puts the puzzle together while getting herself into some dangerous situations. So if you like a little mystery, humor, and action…you’ll like this one.
