The Proposal: Jasmine Guillory

So I grabbed another one off Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine book club list. This month’s book is The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory. I gave Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman a try and couldn’t get into it. So then I tried Emily Giffin’s All We Ever Wanted because I have already read a bunch of her books. Couldn’t get into that one either. So thank you Jasmine Guillory. I really enjoyed reading this one.

The story starts when Nik’s boyfriend of 5 months proposes on the JumboTron at Dodger’s Stadium in front of thousands of people. It doesn’t help that he didn’t even spell her name right, they’ve never discussed marriage, and haven’t even used the words I love you with each other yet. What was he thinking? The rest of Dodger’s Stadium doesn’t know that, but as Nik has to turn down Fisher’s proposal in front of thousands (on his birthday) she is immediately deemed a terrible person.  Lucky enough she is saved from the camera crew by brother and sister duo, Angela and Carlos.

Nik and Carlos quickly become friends while she’s waiting for this whole proposal thing to blow over. One of the downfalls of social media is that it is plastered EVERYWHERE. Their friendship escalates to a more “friends with benefits” situation, both of them agreed that there was no more to it than that. Neither of them want a relationship. Little do they both know….they are perfect for each other. Maneuvering those waters will be difficult.

Nik’s two best friends are a lot of fun, and seem to  know Nik better than Nik knows herself. It was a quick, fun read.
