“The Baby” Turned TEN

It’s taken me a good week to get use to the fact that my “baby” turned TEN. Double-Digits!! Who am I kidding? No, I’m not use to it yet. Not okay with it at all. He’s the BABY!!!! At least I’m no longer rocking back and forth in the fetal position while hiding in the corner. I still can’t believe it. Where did the time go? My buttah eating baby!!

I feel you, buddy.

He was super excited about turning 10. He was most excited because he was going to do a Harry Potter themed birthday party with the family. He INSISTED that we make a chocolate cake from scratch. Yes, from scratch people. No Betty Crocker. What? This was going to be a first.  I personally think that we have been watching too much Kids Baking Championship. I had this completely false confidence while planning this cake. We were even making our own chocolate buttercream frosting! I have NEVER made cake from scratch, and never made a homemade buttercream frosting. Oh boy!! I tried using his collection of wands to conjure up a fabulous cake, but none of them seemed to work. I took the entire day off work so we could complete this challenge, and it was so much fun spending that time together. He is the one that shares my love for cooking and is always ready to help in the kitchen. He has been making up his own recipes since preschool. Some of which were really scary to try, like his banana and strawberry topped Cheez-it. Eek. He thought they were fabulous. At least his Cheesey Meatballs were a hit.

Back to our cake. It actually ended up coming out pretty good. Duff Goldman would be proud.

I found the candles and edible decoration on Amazon! There was no way this mom was going to be able to pipe out something fancy and magical.

Happy TENTH Birthday Finnegan!! My sweet and super funny boy.

Forever my baby and creator of my favorite song ever!

  1. I remember when that happened with my oldest. I was like, “Nooooooo!!!” My former youngest is about to turn 9. I would feel quite depressed and old if not for having a 1.5 y-o now too. Ha. Perspective. And that cake is incredible. My kids would love that, but no way I could pull it off!
