I Owe You One – Sophie Kinsella

I haven’t read a Sophie Kinsella book since the first Shopaholic novel, but I love me a little UK based story and I have been plowing through books lately. When I saw a new one had just come out I decided to go for it and it did not disappoint.

Fixie Farr earned her nickname, Fixie, by having this compulsive need to fix everyone’s problems…but her own. Fixie was brought by her father’s motor “Family First.” A great idea, but the problem is her siblings are the worst. They are so selfish and egotistical that they nearly lose the family business that they mother left in their hands to run while she was away for a few months. Fixie herself could run the place like a well-oiled machine. The problem is her siblings and her lack to stand up to them. They just won’t let her “fix” it.

Fixie ends up saving a gentleman’s laptop from a disaster and he awards her with an “I Owe You,” which she has no intention of collecting until her long-time crush needs a favor. The long-time crush is just another person she can’t seem to stand up to and he uses her like a doormat. It is not until she goes to collect her I Owe You from Sebastian that Fixie really starts to find herself. Sebastian helps her build her self-confidence and fight that “family first” motto. Sometimes you have to put yourself first.

For someone who is a “people pleaser,” this is a great little read.
