Joggers.
Not the runner kind, but the boys pants kind. I can’t stand them. The elastic ankles just remind me of Skidz from 1989, or your classic Hanes sweatpants from 1974 worn too tight.
Now it’s not just athletic pants that are tapering the ankles and adding elastics that’s infuriating me. It’s the pants. The chinos and cargos. Uniform pants with elastics a the bottom. Seriously? I get fashions change and come back again, but I just can’t stand it. Then when I seen grown men wearing them I’m just flabbergasted. Are they trying to prevent ticks or something?
Lucky for me, my kids really don’t care about fashion. Finn likes a good flat front chino which I can still find in stores, Deacon likes athletic pants, Logan likes athletic pants or cargo pants. It hasn’t been an issue until now. This year’s school shopping experience has been a pant nightmare. Before I could find athletic pants and all other pants with a straight leg, even jeans with a boot cut. Now I can’t find them anywhere. Every pair of pants (aside from dress pants) I found at the stores were “joggers.” Kohls, Target, Old Navy, Gap. I just want to find PLAIN PANTS! So it obviously got me thinking. I am so out of fashion. Am I sending my kids to school to be made fun of because they don’t have joggers? It is so hard to find normal pants that obviously they’re out of style. I was admitting defeat and even asked the two older boys if they wanted joggers. They both said No. I finally found a pair of straight leg cargos at Lands End. They were on clearance for $11, thus affirming they are no longer in style.
So what do I do? Let my kids dress in unfashionable clothes? Honestly, does it really matter (it did where I grew up)? I’m going to have to go back to the Little House on the Prairie days and start making their own pants. I just want NORMAL STRAIGHT PANTS!
